Better than Pictures

I'd like to make the argument that digital music is better than pictures for remembering the past. Music can take you back to a certain place or time that even the best pictures can't.

Let's try the pro's and con's of pictures first. Up until recently a photograph was something that had to be developed at the drug store. In a roll of twelve or twenty four pictures, there were only two or three that you wanted to keep. Most of us would keep the envelopes and negatives. Ten years down the road your sock draw had more memories in the form of old photographs than you knew what to do with.

Digital music is a much more selective process. Much like digital photographs, you can pick and choose the items that you want to download and keep. Sure a few songs are like pictures of an old haircut, but most good songs are timeless especially if the recording had substance to begin with.

And unlike old photographs that you lug around from house to house and apartment to apartment, digital songs are housed on the internet. Waiting to bring back memories at the click of a button.
